Lerone Bennett, Executive Editor, Ebony Magazine and recipient of the Education Award
DuSable Museum Night of 100 Stars

On February 15, 2003, the DuSable Museum of African American History presented a night of eloquence and gaiety with its annual Night of 100 Stars Gala.

The gala featured its Chicago African American History Makers Awards.
Local business, political, civic and community leaders gathered to pay tribute to six honorees: Frank Clark of Reggio’s Pizza; Thomas Burrell, Burrell Communications Group; Lerone Bennet, Ebony Magazine; Mavis Staples, Grammy-award winner singer; Carole Simpson, ABC News Anchor and Attorney Anna Langford, retired Chicago Alderman.

The gala was co-hosted by CBS 2 anchors Tracy Townsend and Antonio Mora. Gala attendants received a very special treat when Mavis Staples joined singer Santita Jackson on stage for an impromptu rendition of “I’ll Take You There.” Awardees were inducted into the DuSable Museum Chicago Hall of Fame “Gallery of Greats.”
